Iran is prepared to reinitiate nuclear discussions with Washington on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "respect", Iran's top diplomat has announced.

The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy was effective, and disclosed recent overtures had come from go-betweens to reopen discussions with the American leadership. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit struck enrichment centers for protective measures.

Walking a Complex Course

The foreign minister is navigating a challenging course since Iran wishes not to appear to be acting from a situation of disadvantage, and he consistently maintained that Iran had come out more powerful militarily and mentally from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was speaking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will never give up" – the key factor of the deadlock in the previous talks.

Previous Talks Abruptly Terminated

The prior phases of discussions between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious end on 12 June when Israel, with US support, targeted Tehran's atomic facilities in a two-week conflict that culminated with the US president claiming the locations had been destroyed. Subsequently, Western states employed their privilege to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.

Tehran representatives said they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in earlier negotiations, when it was settled an local partnership with US participation could process nuclear material. He continued: "We successfully passed this war. Our enrichment knowledge, which they aimed to destroy, continues to exist. The facilities and machinery, if eliminated, will be reconstructed; what is essential is the will of the nation of Iran and then the social solidarity that they sought to undermine, but did not succeed to shatter. The Iranian people have developed stronger, more integrated, and more backing of the government and the state in the aftermath of this attack."
