The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in duties at both ends of pitch

After a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defensive duties, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs box.
