The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.
European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted individuals that were central to efforts to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported France in condemning the move.
